Golf Tip:
Shanking
If you ever had the shanks you would almost do anything
to stop it.
A shank is caused by a swing path that delivers the hosel
of the club head into the golf ball first which sends your shot will off course.
Most of the time shanks happen in bunches which can cause
a metal stress in the golfers swing.
In most cases new equipment can not help with a swing
path problem, but with a problem like shanking you have some very good options.
- Standard
irons have the biggest problem because the hosel is even or in most irons ahead of the face.
- Hybrids
irons offer a much improved possibility of shank reduction because the hosel is mostly up and out of the way (half iron/half
wood hosel design).
- Standard
loft and high lofted fairway woods with the entire face forward of the shaft and hosel, offer the best in shank proof golf
shots.
There has been
many articles written about the problem of shanking, what the cause and corrections are, but the most important aspect is
for the golfer to use equipment that they have convenience in, and have mental trust in what there using. It’s only
when you develop convenience and trust in your clubs that you will be able to take a full swing thru the ball, and that will
help produce distance with accuracy without the fear of a shank.
